i would agree with J if this wouldn't just lead to a filibust-breaker and make the barn door open for the next court-changing conservative candidate.

What makes you think Mcconell will will be any more respectful of the filibuster if it is used in the future as opposed to now?

nothing at all but total liberal opposition - after playing along now - at a more political convenient time, could be used in a better way, imho and the case for preserving the status quo would be more convincing, imho.

especially if the midterms go sour.

volatile majorities are deciding who is sitting for A LIFETIME on a bench, cause of his or her political stands.....

seems...well...outdated.

seems like gorsuch has spilled the water of a small lake on the idea he would kill roe vs wade.....said he wants to move on and the question is settled.

Tell me, what incentive does there exist for McConnell to not rip up the agreement next time an empty supreme court seat needs to be filled?

he is an old-school-guy who likes the filibuster and i guess would hate to be forced by the lunatic wing of the GOP to push some madman through just cause they can.

besides....there is NOTHING the democrats could have got...literally NOTHING.

They have their pride and dignity. Something they would hand over if this McConnell deal went through.

i prefer a 2018 backlash to doing ted cruz's work.

they want to do it...let them do it themselves.

Brown should be attacked on this. He's unapologetically pro-choice and anti-gun in a big pro-life and pro-2nd Amendment state. Also, he opposed Gorsuch since almost immediately after he was announced.

not refuting that brown is in trouble but.....

"big pro life" state ohio?

if brown loses, then cause 2018 is a really bad year for Dems and OH was trumpified - brown's populist strike otherwise fits the state.

Lyin' Ted is absolutely evil but Rubio is a lot better than that turtle without a shell !

i prefer rubio - more or less - as a human being but he is a total coward.

About what?

about the fact that even a totally useless filibuster wouldn't lose manchin even one vote.

PLZ abolish the filibuster, it's the only thing which secures republican all-time victories.

when this anachronism is finally gone, elections are finally going to have consequences.

filibustering should be - at most - the physical presence of yourself, talking non-stop and when you are finally falling asleep, it ends.

that would at least need some kind of effort.

I am not worried. There will be retaliation for that too.

i can live with that, the democrats are the party who got obstructed out of their shot the last 8 years....meaning, we got 2 republican administrations with power and no meaningful counterbalance in between.

never going to happen again.

This is an interesting theory. Quite illogical of course. I have no idea what obstructed means, other than that your political party was routed in the 2010 elections and the power of the House of Representatives was given to the Republican Party.

Not sure who the 2nd Republican administration is either?

the democrats could have obstructed the shoot out of the GWB administration - and they ofc did not and it was the right call.

the republicans made it necessary to pulverize the old rules.... i like politeness but if it doesn't work, it must go. better 8 years of hardcore republicanism than 16 years without even being able to do anything, cause we are meant to be the "mature" party...most overrated political category ever.

I wonder if Schumer is trolling there. Any nominee would get this kind of treatment.

schumer is giving his base what it wants (after merrick-gate there was nothing to be done about that....the democrats are never going to forget this act imho) and i guess he suspects anyway that the filibuster is a thing of the past.

Right.  But if Trump had to nominate a new justice the new guy would make Scalia look like Ginsburg (forcing the nuke button).  They should be doing backflips down the hallway that Gorsuch is the guy.

what makes you think, trump is the type who would go for ideological vengeance when he has the alternative of making a deal?

won't happyn anyway but i am pretty sure, trump would love a deal with democrats on healthcare now.

besides gorsuch seems much better at showing his decent character (which scalia also had according to many sources but tend to hide behide his dry humour and brash attitude) unveiled.....in which ways would he be more moderate?

as if clare's decision on this matter would change even 1 vote.

if she is gone in 2018 then she would have been gone anyway.

and after 8 years of obama, nuking the filibuster isn't at all scary for me...on the contrary. republicans should be much more afraid of it, since democrats always have been the nice party and too timid.
