This is the thread for the happenings of the 2024 MLB season, from the Cooperstown Ballot on to the World Series. The Texas Rangers won their 1st ever World Series Pennant.

This upcoming season will be the last season the A's play in Oakland, as they are set to relocate to Las Vegas.

This upcoming season will continue to have the RSN crisis unfold that began last season, especially with the Bally RSNs.

A couple of key rule changes will take effect for next year: mound visits will be cut to 4, the runners' lane on the first base side will be widened to include the fair ball side of the foul line. The pitch clock time is being further modified when runners on base, reduced to 18 from 20 seconds.

The 2024 Baseball Hall Of Fame results are now in: Adrián Beltré, Todd Helton, and Joe Mauer all will be inducted this year in Cooperstown.
Billy Wagner, in his 2nd-to-last year eligible, barely missed out on making it.

Gary Sheffield ends his BBWAA eligibility with 63.9%, setting himself up for a chance to make it in via a committee. Andruw Jones got 61.6% and Carlos Beltrán got 57.1%, as both could stand to make further gains in future ballots.

Chase Utley, Torii Hunter, Francisco Rodríguez, Mark Buehrle, and David Wright all gain another year on the ballot.

Bartolo Colón and José Bautista won't appear on any future ballot with their sub-5% performance.

Billy Wagner missing by 5 votes is infuriating. He's deserved to be in the entire time and I can only hope he will make it in next year, but somehow I can't discount the possibility that the BBWAA will f--k it up again because they're a bunch of idiots.

I think he and Ichiro will make it in next year, and maybe Sabathia, Jones, and/or Beltrán as well.

Corey Kluber, who won 2 Cy Youngs and threw a no-no, is retiring.

MLB.com:

Quote
After 13 seasons in the big leagues, Corey Kluber is retiring.

The two-time Cy Young winner took to Instagram on Friday afternoon to post his retirement announcement. He thanked everyone who has helped him during this journey in five paragraphs, but when he got to the end of his note, he left the door open to remain in baseball in another way.

Major League Baseball is recognizing the stats of 7 different Negro Leagues between 1920 and 1948 into the record book. This comes almost four years after the league announced that the leagues would be classified as Major Leagues.

The seven leagues are as follows:

• Negro National League (I) (1920–1931)
• Eastern Colored League (1923–1928)
• American Negro League (1929)
• East-West League (1932)
• Negro Southern League (1932)
• Negro National League (II) (1933–1948)
• Negro American League (1937–1948)

Anthony Castrovince at MLB.com:
Quote
Major League Baseball's embrace of the Negro Leagues is now recognized in the record book, resulting in new-look leaderboards fronted in several prominent places by Hall of Famer Josh Gibson and an overdue appreciation of many other Black stars.

Following the 2020 announcement that seven different Negro Leagues from 1920-1948 would be recognized as Major Leagues, MLB announced Wednesday that it has followed the recommendations of the independent Negro League Statistical Review Committee in absorbing the available Negro Leagues numbers into the official historical record.

5 MLB players were handed down suspensions for violating league rules regarding gambling, and Tucupita Marcano got handed a permanent ban from the league and the other 4 players got a one-year ban (Kelly, Groome, Rodríguez, Saalfrank).

MLB.com:

Major League Baseball placed Padres infielder/outfielder Tucupita Marcano on the permanently ineligible list Tuesday for violating the league’s sports betting rules and policies. Four other players received one-year suspensions for other gambling-related violations.

Athletics right-handed pitcher Michael Kelly received a one-year suspension, as did Minor Leaguers Jay Groome (Padres left-handed pitcher), José Rodríguez (Phillies infielder) and Andrew Saalfrank (D-backs left-handed pitcher). The five players were disciplined for unrelated violations of the league’s gambling policy following investigations by MLB’s Department of Investigations.
