I think if Dems were to nominate someone from the Business World... they would have a good chance of defeating Henry McMaster (current Gov.. due to Nikki Haley leaving).

That said- I also think McMasters should hope he doesn't get a serious challenge in the primary... as he is a very weak candidate...

After Sanford was term limited... McMasters ran in the 2010 Primary and wasn't even in the runoff.

Primary results:

Haley: 49%
Barrett: 22%
McMaster: 16%
Bauer: 12%

Has Vincent Sheheen shown any interest in running?  He came reasonably close in 2010 in a Republican wave year, and McMaster probably doesn't have the kind of appeal that Haley did.

I'm not sure if Sheheen is interested in running... Although I think he too would have a good chance vs McMaster... there is probably a better candidate out there- and hopefully some good options will step forward if it looks like Master will not get a serious primary challenge.

And no- McMaster does not have any of the appeal Haley did... Even those who are not huge Haley fans would probably say that she was at least not the typical politician- and seemed to have decent sense of business and industry.  Master (who will be 71 on election day) is seen as the exact opposite... nothing new & not especially intelligent.

But again- the big question is does McMasters get a strong primary challenge- and if so can he survive it (probably not on the latter question).

I’m not deep into SC politics, but why is McMaster considered a weak candidate?

Maybe I'm wrong about how weak McMasters is... But

Ask anyone you know in South Carolina....
1) How familiar are you with Henry McMaster? (probably not too familiar)
2) What is your general impression of him?
3) Do you think he is a strong candidate for Gov '18 election/or /Do you think he will win?
