I'd fully support this in blue states like New Jersey, Maryland, California, New York, Virginia, etc. but don't do it in any state won by Donald Trump by more than 5 points. Just look at what happened in Indiana in 2012: Tea Party candidate defeated longterm incumbent and lost to Democrat in general. Do you really want that same Democrat (Joe Donnelly) to lose to a Bernie Tea Party candidate in the primary and be defeated by a Republican in the general? Probably not.
