Before the 11th grade, we had to choose between the subjects music and art, which we would have to take for at least two years. (In the 13th grade it was an optional subject.)

Which subject would you have chosen?
Consider, in either course we had to write an exam per semester.

Art is a subject that contains of both painting/drawing skills and art history. The students had to do both theoretical and practical stuff for the exams.

In order to attend the music classes we had to prove beforehand that we are able to play a musical piece on a melodic instrument of our choice (i.e. no drums or triangle) or sing a classical song (both in front of a home crowd). We didn't have to do it well, but we had to prove that we are able to read notes and that could transform them into music. During the lessons and exams we didn't need to play or sing a song.

I would have liked to have had art skills, even of the Bob Ross variety, but I didn't, so music it is.  I did enjoy Art History in college though.

Were painting and art history two different subjects at your high school?
