I favor keeping the council elected Council officers who decide the Chairman and then have a popular election for President of the party and there should most assuredly be a 2-3 month term limit. Each person can serve 2 consecutive terms before they have to stand down for at least one cycle.

I'll strongly support term limits for party officers.

Consecutive term limits, absolutely.

Is my plan ok with you then?

Here's my proposal.

I agree with President and Chariman stuff, but Board should consist members that would be given certain responsibilities.

For example, Secretary, to run all the records, someone for recruitment etc. etc.

Btw, I'd love to have some duties to keep myself busy.

I think maybe that could be for the council to iron out among each other?

My idea is that council should include people like Secretary, Whip etc. etc. who would have certain responsibilities.

I think though that it's maybe getting a bit too specialized for talent. Maybe if one of them needs time off that particular job for another one and wants to switch with another council member for like a week or so...

Would that be allowed or are you asking for more specific roles?

My feeling is, you elect the council and then maybe the council just operates as one whole entity. One member may handle being secretary or whipping, etc. But if that person wishes or needs to trade off on duties with another member of the council, they should be able to do so. Keeps rigidity from taking over the structure, but at the same time still having firm responsibilities laying with them.

I think it'd be pretty simple to just divide the party responsibilities up between the council members after their election. They're not terribly important positions that we need a specific position for.

Exactly.

As an observer, I recommend Fuschia or a dark shade of Purple because nobody ever uses it and it's a cool colour.Tongue

The British SDP?

I had thought it was purple and red, at least the Gang of Four first incarnation.

I'm sorry, but I really prefer orange...

Red is done to death... Actually, I would like a gold color, but this forum's yellow makes me think I'm going blind...

No rose. Someone must be more creative...

I actually like the LibDem logo, but as I said, originality, I think is best. How about a meeting of two roads or something along those lines to celebrate both the more left wing and moderate members joining under one banner.

I withdraw my candidacy for council as there are some far more capable folks than me running for it and I feel they are more deserving.

I'll still be a candidate for Party President, though.

I'm very meh on red, because, though I may be more left wing, we are not exclusively a left wing party and it's very inconsiderate to those members to act like we are. I like orange. We're a unity party, after all, not an exclusively left wing one.

As for the logo, maybe two hands reaching out to shake? Something like that?

Shall the party bylaws be amended to replace "five" in Article 6 with "seven"?

[  ] Yes

Is it reasonable to call for an end to voting now that I believe almost everyone has voted?

Agreed with Xahar... I think that if they wanna run, they should run. I see nothing wrong with it, especially with the voting system we have now... You can pick and choose. No one HAS to tow the party line.

It seems like it might be a good idea to elect party leadership before continuing on with other matters so that there is someone serving in an official capacity to conduct votes.

Agreed. Putting the cart before the horse.

Hey, just a random thought : where is it written that a party must have one colore and only one ? There seems to be a major division between our members, so I think the best thing would merely be to adopt two official colors : Red and Orange. I don't think 49% of the party deserves to be frustrated just because 51% has a different opinion, so let's make everybody happy. Wink

I like this. Why not make them both official?

I would be fine with that, but we need one primary color for the Registrar General and the display of election results on the Wiki.

Let's have a runoff between the two, then?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I had a really hard time ranking everyone. But there's always the next go round and we have term limits, so you'll get a chance more than likely.

Um... how long have we been voting on exec council?... seems like a while...

It'd probably be safe to end the voting right now, but I don't exactly know how to count the executive council election. There's a reason I've never been in charge of Atlasian elections. Tongue

I can count the President race, though, since that's just for one position, but there's a slight problem..

Purple State: Antonio, Albaleman, HappyWarrior, Thomas D, Teddy, Purple State, Ilikeverin, Sbane, Marokai, Kalwejt, Ogis.

Dr. Cynic: Hans, Hashemite, Dr. Dynic, Hawkeye59, polnut, realisticidealist, EarlAW, belgiansocialist, Sewer Socialist, Wisconsin Gurl, Winston Disraeli.

It's currently an 11-11 tie. Tongue

For expediency's sake, I'm willing to drop out and run next time. I'm grateful to everyone who voted for me, but I'll try again next convention.

I thank everyone who voted for me! Thank you to Purple State for being more than worthy of an "opponent"... Thanks to Xahar for choosing me with his tiebreaking vote.

I'd ask the council choose Polnut to be chairman. He's worked very hard for the party and will no doubt do so in the future.

1. Do you approve of the UDL using the following symbol as it's official logo?

[ ] Yes
[X] No

2. Do you approve of the UDL using the color Orange-Red as it's official color?

[X] Yes
[ ] No

I voted no on the logo to give an oppertunity for those who want to offer an alternative to do so.
