If the Austrian men are not able to play proper football during EUROs, let's hope our women will get the job done and survive the group stage ... Wink

(Obviously, teams such as Germany and Sweden are favoured to win again.)

Netherlands beats Norway in the opening game by 1-0.

Yay. Apparently the men's team last victory at an European championship was in 2008.

Still not as bad as our men ...

Their last victory in a World Championship was in 1990 in Italy.

And their last victory in an EURO was in 1960.

Our women are much better, they know how to fight.

Didn't knew this was happening nor that Portugal had a women's national football team. I'm impressed! Cheesy

Let's see how they score tomorrow against Spain.

Did not go well ...

Spain beats Portugal 2-0

But it's not as bad as England vs. Scotland which ended 6-0 ...

France beat Iceland 1-0

I wish the media (mainly the BBC) would stop trying to push women's sport as a thing.

Stop posting. Now.

Tonight is France vs. Austria, which will be a tough game to win. France is the 3rd best team in the UEFA rankings.

Group A is already done.

Netherlands (the hosts) and Denmark are advancing to the 1/4-finals.

Today, the final Group B matches take place. Germany and Sweden have the best chances to advance to the 1/4 finals.

Group C endgames taking place right now.

After 45 minutes, Austria leads Iceland by 2:0, while Switzerland leads a 10-women France by 1:0

Right now, Austria would win Group C with 7 points, followed by Switzerland with 6 points.

France and Iceland would be out.

I can't believe it ! Austria advancing to a quarter-final ... in a EURO ! Proud of our girls !

Group C now done.

Austria wins Group C with 7 points, followed by France with 5 points.

Switzerland and Iceland are out (France equalized against Switzerland in the 2nd half).

Austria and France will likely play against England, Spain or Portugal in the 1/4 finals (depends on the final Group D games tomorrow).

Netherlands vs. Sweden
Germany vs. Denmark
Austria vs. Spain
France vs. England

If we beat Spain, then we'll face Germany or Denmark in the semi finals ...

The match Germany-Denmark has just been canceled due to heavy rain - after an hour of waiting for a decision. 🌧️☂️

It was possible to swim on that field ... Tongue

That means 3 quarter finals today:

Germany vs. Denmark at 12:00
Austria vs. Spain at 18:00
England vs. France at 20:45

Favourite team Germany was just eliminated by Denmark in the 1/4 finals.

Denmark won 2:1 (Germany scored after 2 minutes already, but then played like crap).

Denmark will now face either Austria or Spain in the 1/2 finals.

No Women-Cordoba ...

Technically, the Austrian women (they just debuted in this tournament !) are still behind the "big ones" (Germany, Sweden etc.) - but our ladies have the fighting spirit that is needed to win.

I included a poll about the winner of the EURO.

My guess: England will be the new champion.

The semi-final in the evening between Denmark and Austria will likely be watched by 1.5 million people on TV here !

That's pretty huge for women soccer, considering the game already starts at 6pm and not even at prime time.

The 1/4 final match between Austria and Spain was already watched by 1.22 million people (a record).

In US terms, that would be ca. 55-60 million viewers for a women's football game.

I'm cheering for Austria so that the cup may at least remain within the German-speaking DACH countries. Wink

This will be a tough game ... yet Austria already beat Denmark a month ago during a test game by 4:2 - so I am quite optimistic.
