If you want to PM somebody and you're on a thread page, you look at the avatar of the person you want to PM. Below that should be 1 of 2 icons:
- online
- offline.
Click whichever one is displaying.
If you want to do it from somebody's profile page, the same icons will be there.
For adding a buddy:
Go to profile --> edit Buddies --> type the name of the person you want to add.
