CNN has just projected that Republican Joseph Cao will beat Democrat William Jefferson (the guy who was facing 16 charges relating to bribery).

Jefferson was expected to be able to be Cao even though he had been indicted, so this is really a surprise for me (and I've been following this election for a poli-sci class.

No. No way. No way in the world.

Jefferson lost?

Jefferson lost!

I know.  I'd been following this race for my poli-sci class for 3 months and I was amazed.  I was so freaking happy.

If Cao is smart he'll switch parties now. Tongue
Since Cao ran as an Independent for state house a year ago (in a race that also featured Dems and Reps)... I wouldn't actually rule it out. Grin

But since then, he's become more involved in the party.

Here is a nice map of the district overlaid on a street map.

Is there some sort of weird demographic reason that Terrytown/South Gretna, River Road/La Bauve, and the Avenger Park area are gerrymandered out?

Thats one of the more interesting gm's I've seen.
