I'm a liberal who voted for Cao today.  I look forward to two years of tireless representation from him before we boot him for a (less corrupt) Democrat.  Hopefully state representative Cedric Richmond.

Fun fact: I'm from California-15 (here at Tulane for college), so I'm one of probably 10 Americans (outside Hawaii) who has not one, but two Asian-Americans representing him in Congress.

Well, I've gotta say I'm pretty excited here. I'm glad I predicted this one wrong.

Awesome, I'm at Tulane as well- and I also agree with you about Cedric Richmond. Did you see the dem primary debate here on campus?

I did.  Are you in College Dems too?

Richmond was definitely the most impressive of that batch.  I hope and believe he'll be the nominee here in 2010.  But in this city, we'll probably pick Ray Nagin...

The 15th? Cool. I'm there.

Sad

I wanted Rahim to win (yes, I know).

Cool.  Which part?  I'm from the non-rich part of Los Gatos.

I was tempted to go third party.  I didn't think Cao would even break 30%, but decided just in case to vote for someone I knew about.  I wish Cao the best, but know he's not going to be in the House that long.  Still, he seems to be an impressive guy, and may have a political future outside of the House.

If Cao is smart he'll switch parties now. Tongue

That pretty much guarantees he'd get knocked off in the primary.

He probably has a much better chance winning as Michael Forbes than as Nick Lampson.

I can think of a better comparision...

Yeah, definitely.  Next thing you know, Blago will resign, flee south, and get elected to Congress from LA-2.

Yeah, though I haven't been to the meetings in a while. I did all the Richmond volunteering stuff so I definitely feel strongly about that guy.

I sat that one out, and regret it now.  Won't next time, though!

Just thought this was interesting.

Results for Tulane's precinct, 14 13-A: Cao 168, Jefferson 12, Rhim 11, Kahn 5.

In last months primary it was: Moreno 504, Jefferson 198

In October it was: Cedric Richmond 38, Moreno 29, James Carter 23, Troy Carter 6, Kenya Smith 5, Jefferson 2, Byron Lee, 1

Obviously, there is little love lost between us and Bill Jefferson.

And the Presidential results: Obama 931, McCain 279, Ron Paul 15, and Nader (who visited campus as part of his campaign) 9.

I'm convinced most of Jefferson's voters here in November were just people who showed up to vote for Obama but didn't know anything about the Congressional race so they just ticked the box for the incumbent.

Btw, did you see the snow this morning? Grin

Probably.  It's possible we have one or two students who actually like Jefferson or really disliked Moreno, but probably most voted for the incumbent.

The snow was awesome.  New Orleans was about the last place I expected to see it!  First time since I've seen snow since I was 8, when I was in Denver.

Wow. That is so alien and bizarre to me.

It was pretty funny: when it started snowing pretty much everyone running outside was from theSouth or West Coast.  The Northeasterners and Midwesterners didn't really care much, if at all.  "That excites you?  Losers."

Back on topic: weird to see the GOP leaders kissing the boots of this one-term wonder.  I don't remember Democrats in 2006 being like this to Lampson (though to be fair, DeLay was going to be gone anyway).  Wonder how much they'll like him when he turns out not to tow party-line (unless he really doesn't care about reelection)

It must be weird to live in a refridgerator. I've only seen falling snow once, and that was on Memorial Day.

Well, I've never seen snow where I live.  Since I assume you did that one time, you're the one in the freezer, along with Jefferson's money.

A good set of caucus leaders will know when a party-line stand really matters and will leave a member to vote their district's interests in other cases. Those leaders would understand that without members in marginal districts, it's unlikely that they will sit in the majority.

Definitely.  Of course, the really important votes where Cao has to decide between Obama's agenda and the GOP are going to be hell, especially in this district.  Voting against anything Obama wants isn't going to go over well.  Basically, I can imagine Cao's voting record being similar to Tim Mahoney's, at the center of the House (hopefully, he shares very little else with Tim Mahoney).  Just a guess, though: Cao will be a fun one to watch.

Me? No, that was at Kings Canyon.

Ah.  I was wondering "Did it snow in the South Bay while I wasn't looking?"

As far as I know, it hasn't snowed in the valley in over a decade.

My parents told me it snowed lightly in the 80's or something.  That's about it.

When it first started snowing in New Orleans I thought it was hail.  Then I saw people going out and not ducking for shelter, so I knew it was safe then.
