I paid $3.87 at an Exxon station (cheapest gas that won't wreck your car)

But I saw $3.69 if you pay with cash at a "Gasway" Station

There's a Lukoil station on my bus route that I see out the window every day that's currently trying to sell gas at $4.45/gal. I have no idea how this gas station survives; gas is around $3.80/gal at most local stations, and it's not as if Leonia has no other gas station (let alone the neighboring towns).
Yea I saw one of those driving through Belleville (your probably familiar with the town).  I said that was ridiculous, and my friend that the only ridiculous thing was that some moron was filling up there Tongue

Speaking of Belleville, I'm actually going to be there today. At other times of year, the cherry blossoms in Belleville are stunning, better even than in DC.

Anyway, the Leonia gas station was a Citgo station, not Lukoil, just wanted to clear that up. They use the same red-and-white color scheme. And it dropped last week to... $4.349/gal. The other local gas stations seemed to have decided to sit on ~$3.80/gal, though.
Was it right near another gas station?  This one had a station across the street selling gas at like $3.68

Somebody is paying those guys pumping the gas aint they?  That money doesn't fall like mana from heaven.  Somebody is paying for it somewhere.
I believe Conan is actually right, the payroll tax we garner from them brings down gas taxes

Anyway, I've seen in the $3.30s for cash at no name stations

That's great!

But somebody is still paying those guys to pump gas.
True, but the person is not really the consumer as evidenced by the low prices

Maybe not, but somebody is.  Do gas station owners in NJ make substantially less money than their counterparts in PA or NY?  They must be getting compensated somewhere, somehow.  The math doesn't add up otherwise.
Most gas stations in New Jersey do a lot of business through repairs as well as gas sales.  There are not as many body shops as in other states.  Plus, the employee cost is really not that great.  Most have two guys at a time pumping gas at minimum wage.  So $7.25X2=$14.50 an hour.  So we are talking maybe $300 a day, and these people also run the conveince stores inside so they are doing double duty

Mapquest says a Lukoil station in the ghetto about 10 miles away from me has it for $2.95, but I value my life over cheap gas

I only need gas every two weeks during the school year.  Last time about two weeks ago I paid $3.29, that station is at $3.07 right now and I've seen as low as $2.89

Not only was this watered down gas (I'm not kidding the station really has gotten in trouble for that twice), but it was also only with cash.  Cheapest name credit is still in the low $2.80s high $2.70s
