Republicans were rapidly losing their raison d'etre, having narrow lost the last two elections and being unable to stop the implementation of King's economic agenda, thanks to defections from their more moderate members in the North. This frustration eventually came to a head at the Roanoake Convention, where some frustrated Old Republicans discussed the possibility of seceding from the Union, given the increasing dominance of New England on American policy. This served largely to discredit the Republican brand with accusations of treason and disloyalty.

Despite frustration with the Virginia dynasty serving in part as a reason for Republican defeat in the last two elections, Governor James Monroe was narrowly selected over Senator William Crawford to be their standard bearer. While the Canada issue has died down with the close of the Napoleonic Wars, Monroe continues to criticize the Federalist program of active government, while shying away from abolishing existing federal projects. For instance, Monroe has remained silent on the recent rechartering of the Bank of the United States.

Can the Republicans end their eight-year exile from the White House? What would a Federalist Era of Good Feelings look like? Cast your vote to find out.
