Nearly all protests about Israel is due to the media making Israel a "news event" - this may, ironically, something to do with its cultural accessibility (and thus its history and tragic foundation) to the west than anywhere else more obscure: Sri Lanka anyone? - thus making it an arena to which cliched opinions are formed around and transmitted to the public, many of whom have a desire to protest against something (life? existence? existential boredom?) and take up the Israel/Palestine situation - perfectly unconciously - as their cause and surround themselves with the views around, which as I said are trite and cliche. Many are also quasi anti-semitic, though I don't think many anti-Israel protesters are anti-semitic, as anti-semitism suggests a modicum of intellectual consistency.
