Celebrities can reach people who politicians cannot. Most young people today, cannot identify with a politician, a technocrat, or a university professor. They are more likely to identify with "that Harry Potter girl", hence her message reaches a different audience than it would otherwise. From a strictly utilitarian standpoint, this is the reason.

In any case, wonderful speech. Huzzah for Emma Watson.
