An estimated 86% of convicted felons are sentenced to jail within one year of arrest. If Trump is not, he will only be saved by the privilege of white collar crime, the notion that somehow it is worthy of less serious punishment than other crimes, which is in itself unfair. A convicted felon would have trouble getting a low-level government job with a Secret security clearance, let alone a job with the highest clearances. From the standpoint of democracy, an opposition leader being criminally prosecuted is not good, but he did the deed and it is a crime, so the verdict was correct.
In a sane country, the GOP would now nominate someone else, or else the election would be between Biden and RFK, Jr.
