Basically, the "Fairness to the Children Act" would ban homosexual couples from adopting children.

I oppose this measure, of course.

I am also against the penalities because if a straight couple is chosen over a gay couple for the baby, I see a lawsuit rising up that shouldn't.

Adopting a child doesn't usually work the same way as applying for a job.  Seldom is it the case that a whole bunch of different families are trying to adopt the same child.

The reality of the situation is that there is an unfortunate number of children currently seeking adoptive families.  This bill would ensure that more of those children go unadopted by opening the door for discrimination.
