Perry is playing it right. He is sending a message to the Ames attendees that he is in trying to pump up those write in votes but there is no downside. If he gets in the top 3 or 4 he will get huge press for doing so well but even if he doesn't he cant be slammed for not doing well in a poll that he didnt attend.
Of course now Palin is showing up in IA same weekend. Poor Pawlenty he must feel like he cant catch a break
