One of the big differences between this year and the last 3 elections is that big media organizations are smaller and have cut budgets. Some dont even exist anymore (like Newsweek really). So you get fewer of the big expensive phone polls. And on the other side the tech for doing IVR and Internet polling has become cheaper and more available. This is especially true at the sate level where there are fewer and fewer big media polls (for example Gallup dont do any and CNN is down to a trickle)
