If you watched Morning Joe (again a good gauge of beltway conventional wisdom), the theme was that Fox was out to get Trump and treated others with softballs. I think I actually agree. When I saw that first question about hands up if you wont pledge to run third party. I immediately imagined Admiral Akhbar yelling to Donald "It's a trap!"

hard to say if picking a fight with FOX is a winning move in a GOP primary. But you never know with Trump. I do think that Ailes has decided that it is time to take Trump down. Their coverage of Trump today was not favorable so the memo has gone out.  But some on the right see Fox as part of the establishment.

That is how Rush sees it.

Trump certainly seems to be overplaying his hand. He could get some people to get on board the idea that Fox went after him. But his personal attacks on Kelly are over the line.   Not that Trump is aware that there are lines.

Trump picked the wrong target. If he wanted a specific person besides 'Fox' in general he should have gone after Roger Ailes. He should have invoked the GOP insider conspiracy angle, as pushed by Rush. If he had to go after her, he could have even said "I feel sorry for Megyn, but was just following orders..."

It's not just that she is a woman, but it is petty to go after a specific journalist. Go after the head of the beast...Ailes.
