So, at my local library's book sale last weekend, I bought a bound copy of speeches from Al Smith's 1928 campaign for $30.  The reason it was so expensive is that it was in fact signed by Al Smith!  I think it's a rather neat thing; does anybody else have stuff like that?

How do you know it's really his signature?

No real proof; the inscription is hand written, saying "All the best, Alfred E. Smith", and I doubt there are people forging Al Smith's signature - plus, the ink is fading, indicating that it really is 80 years old.
