So, I've decided to see who the Atlas considers to be the greatest Senators in US history.  You can nominate up to 7 people, and I'll leave the nominations up for a week.  The only requirement is that the Senator must have already left office, so Ted Kennedy, Robert Byrd, etc., cannot be nominated.

Henry Clay (Whig - Kentucky, 1806-1807, 1810-1811, 1831-1842, 1849-1852)
John C. Calhoun (Democrat - South Carolina, 1832-1843, 1845-1850)
Walter George (Democrat - Georgia, 1922-1957)
Carl Hayden (Democrat - Arizona, 1927-1969)
Richard Russell, Jr. (Democrat - Georgia, 1933-1971)
Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat - Texas, 1949-1961)

Henry Cabot Lodge (Republican - Massachusetts, 1893-1924)

Stennis was a great Senator, and I would've included him, except for the 7 person limit, which has been ignored Tongue

John C. Calhoun (Democrat - South Carolina, 1832-1843, 1845-1850)

Do you even know what his principles were? Here's a hint: they weren't moderate.

I'm not voting on favorites, I'm voting on the greatest Senators, and Calhoun was great.

I think 30 years from now, We'll be saying Ted Kennedy and John McCain for this era.

Kennedy would be included now, and I may waive the requirement if a person receives 7 nominations.
