I don't think either side has a mandate unless they're brought in by huge margins. There's still a very large percentage of Americans that disagree with the President's policies, so I'd be careful about treating this victory as a "mandate", otherwise, prepare for another brutal midterm.

The midterm is going to be brutal for Dems no matter what happens. Better that Obama makes hay while the sun shines and gives his voters a reason to come out than wait for the bloodbath.
