The 8th is the last big primary day for a while. Between then and August there are only three more states (Utah, Georgia and Oklahoma) and some runoffs. I think it's worthwhile for big multi-state days; there's definitely no need for individual threads for the smaller primary dates.

Yeah, there won't be another state worth really watching until Arizona comes up imo.

The Utah primary will pick the next senator.

And the Georgia gubernatorial primaries are competitive on both sides.

Something odd going on in Garland County, Arkansas: The folks running the runoff election there have decided to only open two polling places for the entire county. Garland County is the most populous county in the state that Bill Halter won.

My guess is that this has something to do with budget cuts and isn't inherently sinister (although I guess I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out it was). Not good news for Halter either way though.

Bummer on Prop 14. Hopefully this doesn't start a nationwide trend.

What percentage of California votes by mail these days? I recall reading back in 2008 that it's pushing 70%.

You don't like the jungle primary Pit?

Theoretically, it could help third party candidates by lowering the threshold required for plurality.  A charismatic, viable third party candidate could make it to the runoff.  However, major party candidates don't always split the vote near-evenly.

You will never see a third party on a general election ballot again in any race of significance. California has killed third parties tonight.

Extremely disappointed by what happened in Arkansas but very glad Republicans decided to give us the California and Nevada Senate seats.

Once again proving how great it is, San Francisco was the only county of significance to vote against Prop 14.

The California Secretary of State has a outstanding map feature on their website for the statewide races and propositions. Atlas quality.

Something to chew on: If Prop 14 had been in effect this year then CA-19 and CA-42 would be R vs. R in the general. CA-36 would be D vs. D (although this is right on the edge and could change).

Is there a table of the colors used in the maps here, so I don't have to keep going around print-screening and sh-t?

I've been looking for something like that for years.

You mean this??

All you have to do is click "map key" on any of the election pages for that.

Well I feel dumb now.
