Canada, meanwhile, became a democracy in 1848, and we are the second oldest continuous democracy in existence after the US.
Well it depends on how you define things, but I think Iceland would like to have a word with you. link (though shooting holes in that argument is pretty easy)

(and I've noticed in the past that the Euros tend to not like it when you point these things out, so expect to be yelled at or ignored)
