I support this bill and I support including bikes and mopeds in as well. I also think we should keep the higher rebates, Matt.

Some are arguing that this will help automobile companies, but that is precisely the point. I understand that many times driving an older car is better for the environment, but this bill only gives you a rebate if you had a gas guzzling car.

One thing you guys might be missing is that there aren't a lot of cars out there on the roads that get less than 17mpg in the case of sedans and 14mpg in the case of SUV's and trucks. Especially the sedans. I suspect most get a higher mileage than that.

I really think we need a higher rebate than what Matt is proposing.

I only support the first amendment. The rebate for bikes is too high (though maybe it could be raised a bit from $50-$75) and I will certainly not support punishing a family for having 2 cars. Both spouses may need to go to work you know.....

Hmm, if it was a limit of one car per every eligible person in the household (so 16 year olds would be eligible), I could support it.

I would word the amendment like this:
3) Individuals who own multiple vehicles shall be ineligible for the rebates specified in Section 1, Clauses 1,2 and 3. Each family member, including minors eligible to drive, will be considered an individual for the purpose of this bill. Multiple cars registered to a single individual will not make that individual ineligible so long as those extra cars are being primarily driven by a member of their immediate family, such as their spouse, children or parents.

The problem I have with the other amendment is that it doesn't cost that much money to buy a bike. We should not just give away bikes for free and then give them some extra cash on top of that.

I agree with Matt about the bicycle amendment. That amount is way too much. How about $500? I think that is a huge rebate for a bike.

Nay. Moving someone from a gas guzzler to a hybrid is even better than moving them to a Honda accord.

Although I don't like the 4th point in section 2, I can live with this bill.
