Isn't it funny how strict finance laws just enhance the incentive to find candidate who can get around them?
NYC kind of reminds me of that, as we have great campaign disclosure laws, except if you're the richest man in the entire city who can write personal checks etc. of untold sums to political charities and political organizations that won't be revealed until after the election date.
It seems logical, does it not? If you can't easily raise large sums of money from other people, it gives you an incredible advantage if you can get the aforementioned large sums of money from yourself.
