Regardless of whether puberty occurs earlier. Judgement does not and in fact it appears that is occuring later and later. As such we should not allow people of this age to engage in sexual relations because it is unlikely that they will understand the consequences of their actions.

Do we have any data supporting the fact that puberty occurs earlier?
My main concern here is simply the fact that, as a teenager myself, and only being 14 a couple years ago, I worry about how good of decisions a 14 year old kid will make.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_manifestations_to_lower_the_age_of_consent#Researches

If we lower the age of consent, it will also help stop teen pregnancy and STDs by allowing easier access to protection. There ARE people who are capable of making those decisions at 14 and it is harmful to keep it higher than that for these reasons.

Yes 1 or 2 out of 1,000 will always be mature. But should we just abandon the other 998 to their irresponsibility.

It's more than that, and if we continue with our current policy, the problem will never get better.

What problem are you trying to fix. All I see is this creating more problems.

The problems of teenage pregnancy and STDs. If we lower the age of consent, we could provide protection to younger people which would prevent the spread of both.

And so your solution is to open floodgates, say go forth and multiply to people as young as 14. The use of protection again is a measure of responsiblity, and a realization of the potential consequences of the act, in this case sex. Even if access is increased to contraceptives, too few will take advantage of it.

How do you know? I somehow doubt that 14 years old (with some exceptions) want to get pregnant, and I doubt even more that they want to pick up HIV or syphilis or gonorrhea or something equally nasty. So they would probably use contraceptives.

I doubt that people that young would even thing about that or consider the potential dangers. The youngest people in this country today are the dumbest and most self-absorbed generation ever spawned. I doubt seriously whether they care about anything other then momentary impulse.

A couple questions/remarks:

1. What is the current age of consent in Atlasia? I would honestly prefer an AoC at 16 years old with a two or three year "window" for people close in age.

2. Would this override regional laws or only apply to areas of direct federal jurisdiction?

1. There isn't a federal age of consent, I don't think.
2. It would only be a federal law. Regions could set their own.

As currently written this bill would overide Regional law, so you better add a provision to the bill stating that is the case.

I'm sorry, but if you think they're THAT stupid, I don't know what to say. It's common for new generations to be accused of being the dumbest etc... it's gone on since Socrates. Quite simply, you're making a generalisation.

I am very very cynical about everything. Its not the dumb part but its the self-absorbed part. They want everything now and if someone tells them now, they will want it more. How do you get these people to think before they act when it comes to sex, when they clearly can't think before they act in numerous other instances.

I'd like to offer an amendment:

Eww, you're southerness Northeastern Pennsylvanianess is showing Tongue

I have an idea that I think could be accepted by all sides. Age of consent is 16, but if two people over the age of 14 are within, say, 2 years of each other in age, than the law does not apply.

Now I know how Afleitch felt. Tongue

Sorry, are these queries directed to me? Sorry if I misunderstood Winston's response to be giving me the go-ahead.

Grrr. Unfortunately I'll have to try tomorrow (bad day at work).

It was directed at all the Senators.

Are there any amendments to be offered before this proceeds to a final vote?

I'll pose a question to gauge the will of the Senate first:

Do we really want to ban any sexual activity--which as written would apparantly include "sexual contact" as I defined above (i.e. 'first and second base') between 17 and 14 year olds? That's a high school junior and freshman (with the frosh's birthday coming later in the school year than the junior's). I'm not sure I'd oppose the bill if that's truly the wish of the Senate, but it seems contrary to Winton's original intent to liberalize the law here somewhat.

Why don't we just make all sex illegal for everyone? It seems that would solve a lot of problems. Tongue

EDIT: Meanwhile, any comment on the point I raised? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I would rather lose a kidney.

I am probably going to get rid of her soon. She is so shallow and boring. She also doesn't like politics.
