Surely, I am not the only one who sees the problem with this? Particularly with regards to one particularly department, but the problem is present for all of them.

Also sections 2 and 4 seem to contradict one another as to the names of the official leading each Department.

Offering this separately just in case the other one runs into opposition.

I can imagine some fancy the idea of the executive abolishing the justice department. Wink Tongue

Oh no Yankee, who would want that? Tongue

Atlasia voted into office Hamilton and let ogis slide in through appointment and resignation Ford style without anybody realizing it. Tongue The latter of whom pardoned every Tom, Dick and John Dillinger he could find as well as himself. I don't think we should be testing our luck with executive overreach and tyranny. We have checks and balances for reason and I think preserving the legislative regulation of the cabinet in addition to advise and consent, is preferable.

Though this amendment improves my opinion of this bill and  I am "reluctant" to see this bill die, I am leaning towards nay because I am "passionately" opposed to executive overreach.

Reserving the right to object, you missed my second amendment. Tongue

Well yes, back when I first started it was done all the time but subsequent PPTs (not just myself but also others) became very cautious and it was relegated to only the minorest of changes.

I don't know about the present rules, but I would assume he would have to give an objection period to overiding the rules and at this point that would be longer than letting the remaining 15 hours elapse. Of course under the old rules, it would be just three hours remaining until the amendment is passed (just saying Tongue).

Sorry Yankee, you seem to be the only person nostalgically looking back on the old rules Tongue

What is this nostagia thing you speak of?

Chairing the RPP in 2011 after dissolution
Chairing the RPP in 2010, during 2011
Duke's Senate Term
The Previous Federal Reserve Arrangement
Everything involving a computer before January 12, 2013.
College after Graduating

Well, I don't consider Yanke's song as a willingness to participate to the debates, so, I don't have to start a vote ending the debates. Tongue

Senators have 24 hours to object.

I reserve the right to object,

Only the last line "I don't like it but I guess things happen that way..." is a song. The rest was just a list establishing a sarcastic point. Tongue

I withdraw my objection. Proceed. Wink

When I was elected, I ran on a promise that I make the opposing case on stuff that was overwhelmingly supported. That has been the case here and it wasn't just devil's advocacy in this case.

I made the case against executive control over the creation of executive departments and the downside risk it could pose to the execution of our countries laws. A president who doesn't like a law could abolish the respective department and make it so that it cannot be enforced. I am glad that the Senate supported my amendments to exempt the Department of Justice from this as that was probably the most glaring concern. I also like how this version treats the Game Moderator as opposed to earlier versions of this, which surbordinated it to the President as well.

In spite of the improvements, the problem is still an issue for me and executive overreach is something that has interested me a lot lately, but has always been fundamental concern when it pertains to my view of politics and conservative philosophy. It was one of the things I found distasteful about the Bush years, it is present throughout history ranging from good people with decent intentions to downright malevolent leaders seeking to empower themselves and it is something that should concern all, particularly with the recent incidents in game regarding Presidents who turned out not to be (them baby, but just a brilliant disguise oh ah oh ah).

As concerned as I am about seperation of powers in general, but especially when it comes to the power of the executive branch, I therefore cannot vote to cede to the President the legislative branch's power to create and abolish executive departments.

I Never Thought I'd Live
To read about this scene
In my hometown paper

Everybody Acts the same
Dear Collegues can you see,
I'll Give You Thoughts
You Cannot Understand

IIIIII am the only nay vote
IIIIII am the only nay vote

I came here to break the conformity of thought and that is what I am going to do. Wink
