Hopefully it will be better than 3. Not a huge fan of that one.
That was the first and best game of my childhood from 4th to 10th grade
Compared to 2, 3 was pretty bad.
I played 1,2, and 3, but I must say I found AOE 2 the best.
For some reason AOE II quit playing on the XP machine circa 2009/2010. I never really did find out why, but figured it was an update or something. So I only get to play it when I dig the old Windows 98 machine out of the closest, and that is very rarely.
And ever since I put an HD7770 video card in the Windows Seven machine, it won't play anything that came out before 2006, also because of an update.
You can just check the box that makes the game compatible on a Windows 10 PC, like I do.
That only has limited effectiveness.
And it definitely won't solve the AMD driver issue, which is a pretty widely documented error concerning a pixel limit of 10,000 on older iterations of Direct Draw, where previously no such limit had existed and so any program that contains even a single image that exceeds that on older Direct Draw (which is most every game designed on those) crashes on startup. The only solution so far has to been to manually identify the files and edit them by hand to reduce the pixel counts.
Games so far effected that I have personally seen:
Age of Empires I
Age of Empires II
Medal of Honor Allied Assault and all its expansions
Hearts of Iron II
Victoria: Revolutions
Europa Universalis II
Battlefield 1942
Probably effects others but I haven't tested them all yet.
