Actually former Presidents Ford, Carter, Bush, and Clinton have all said that a single six-year term would be better than our current system of two four-year terms.

Carter endorsed this idea when he was running for re-election in 1980.  Somebody at the time (I wish I could remember who) said "the best argument against a six-year presidential term is sitting in the White House right now."  For that reason, I oppose the idea.
