in which shua compares gay marriages and bar mitzvahs to burning qur'ans:

This is an outrage and massive infringement on the personal freedom of these bakers! What's next, they'll be forced to bake cakes for blacks and Hispanics, because of a religiously justified opposition to their skin color!?

I wonder if people believe a baker should be allowed to close their doors to Jews looking for a cake for a bar mitzvah because of the baker's religious views.

I wonder if people believe a Muslim bookseller should have to sell an (Arabic) Quran to Pastor Terry Jones.

(No, I don't really wonder, I already know they do. Same people who hate conservative Christians hate Orthodox Jews and Muslims, more often than not.)
lol because bar mitzvahs was totes a legit comparison amirite?  You know nothing about religion, so shut the hell up.

thank you for posting directly into the deluge. Smiley

The fact still remains that black people, particularly young black males, are much more likely to be shot, or at least harassed by the police.

And I just pointed out why.

Do you honestly think that Eric Garner would have suffered the same fate if he were white?

I don't know. This is begging the question.

Even if blacks commit a higher percentage of murders, does that really justify police officers specifically stopping unarmed young black men who haven't done anything wrong?

How is that begging the question? If the answer is no, then how can you argue that the police aren't treating black people unfairly?

Michael Brown and Eric Garner don't fall in the category of "haven't done anything wrong".  Brown had just committed a strong-arm robbery of a convenience store.  Garner was selling "loosies" cigarettes, which he well knew to be illegal.

Garner actively resisted arrest.  Whatever you think of the seriousness of Garner's charge, he was being lawfully arrested, and he was resisting arrest.  At that point, he became an obese asthmatic with high blood pressure actively resisting arrest, and there are consequences to that which come about when you resist arrest.  Yes, I know that Garner's death was ruled a "homicide", but the definition of  homicide is a death caused by the intentional actions of another person or persons, which is not necessarily an intentional death or a criminal death.

Do black lives matter?  Of course they do, but not to the point where they are entitled to resist arrest with violence when they are lawfully being arrested.  The issues of "community policing" and the practice of enforcing every minor law to cut down on crime, stop and frisk, etc. are separate issues.  Michael Brown's and Eric Garner's (especially Garner's) advocates are arguing the right fo criminals to resist arrest for no more reason than coming down with a case of "I'm not goin g to jail today!".  Think of the broader implications of advocating that posture.

Nah, Greens and The Left are basically the same ideologically. All the differences are cultural.

Actually, you know what? No matter how cruel Hitler and his allies were, Hitler never deported people. The truth is that Trump's plan to deport between 11 and 12 million people would be by extremely far the greatest deportation effort in the history of human kind!

And Millennials suck, especially, female, minority, Dem voters that didn't graduate High School.  But we all knew that already.

Finally someone who agrees with me on this issue. Transgenderism is pretty much a form of Body Integrity Identity Disorder, where an otherwise healthy person feels intense hatred for a part of their body and wants to hack it off. There are people who think they should have been born an amputee and have their legs cut off, And the one woman who thought she should have been born blind, so she poured drain cleaner in her eyes to make it so.

Being gay is genetic and biological. I have two lesbian aunts, a gay uncle, four gay cousins, and I'm gay. It runs in my family. Transgender is just another one of today's "Special Snowflake" labels, just like these people that say they're not male or female and walk around wearing a men's muscle shirt and a skirt at the same time. It's just as ridiculous as the man who thinks he was supposed to be born a dog, so he wears a collar, eats Alpo out of a bowl on the floor, plays with chew toys, and sleeps in a doghouse, and Rachel Dolezel in Spokane who's always "identified" as black when she's clearly white and calls herself "transracial."

I absolutely support the bill in South Dakota, and I hope Daugaard signs it. It's time that we as Democrats get back to reality and let this joke of a movement die out. "Ze" and "Zir" are not real pronouns, and should not be demanded or accepted. Whatever happened to common sense? The one paragraph in that article says it best:

Unlike members of the trans community, who are working against their biology and trying to change who they are physically, gay or lesbian people are trying to be nobody but themselves. They are not seeking surgery or hormone treatments. They love the same gender; they don’t want to be a different gender.

I suppose, though, Trump is the natural result of an electorate that is largely uninformed and lazy.

let's dispel this notion that trump voters don't know what they're doing - they know exactly what they're doing

As a millennial and a progressive, I will be voting Trump in the GE if Hillary is nominated. Frankly, right-wing progressivism is more welcome to me than corporatist stagnation. And there is the very real chance Trump just played all the Republican voters and is actually more liberal than Hillary. I'll take a fascist moderate over center-right Hillary.

#NeverClinton

I honestly think this may be one of the worst posts in Atlas Forum history.

someone who is 55% fascist and 45% communist

Yes.  There are few people that are not assholes that worked hard and didn't find success.  You really can't answer this question unless you've lived a little.  If you're 18 and think you know the answer to this, you are very very wrong.

I guess it could depend on what you mean by "pay off".  If it means "rich" then the answer would be "sometimes", but if it just means "by middle age you've got a bunch of ways to entertain yourself and those you support" then the answer is "yes".

It also might not be "yes" in some western countries that have stupid unemployment numbers.

Probably the worst case for Sanders, he would do much better, although a lot can change in 222 days.
270 Sanders
191 Kasich
77 tossup
If Kasich were to get the nomination (highly unlikely), Sanders would still have a week to convince super delegates that nominating Clinton wouldn't be worth the risk (although I doubt that he could do that since 2/3 of the supers are currently supporting Clinton. Still we can all dream). Clinton wouldn't do as well as Sanders, and might even lose, according to current polls. She trails Kasich in popular but not necessarily electoral votes, she might win the same states plus Nevada, although she might lose Ohio:

there's nothing absurd about that post. i would've thought a connoisseur of absurdity such as yourself would have realised that.

That post is very absurd. Bernie is not getting 270 EVs in his worst case scenario, anyone with a shred of common knowledge ought to know that.

the only thing that's absurd here is the idea of ka(zzz)ich winning virginia or iowa

This whole thing started as a way to combine pro-life positions and opposition to the contraception mandate/free birth control into one line.  Fortunately for the democrats, Todd Akin was an idiot and Rush Limbaugh (also an idiot) insulted Sandra Fluke and that lent credibility to the charge.  But pro-life positions and religious opposition to parts of Obamacare don't come from a place of hating women, they come from religious arguments, so really what they were saying all along (without coming out and saying it) was that christianity was at war on women.  More recently they've thrown some feminist positions into the "war on women" smorgasbord even though republicans aren't even opposed to many of them.  Like closing the gender pay gap.  Who is opposed to this?  The problem is that nobody knows how to force more women to select high-paying majors and prioritize their careers.  Recently the democrats have been saying "equal pay for equal work" but the EEOC already enforces this and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act fixed the loophole that was breaking it.

False rape allegations are common? Oh, poor things, getting accused of rape! And those lucky women! All they have to do is worry about getting raped! We men have it so hard, don't we?

Go to hell

But more to the point, Bill Clinton is absolutely right. Most of the shootings that occur in black neighborhoods in big cities are committed by blacks, yet Black Lives Matter seems to focus mostly on police shootings. If not for the crime bill there would be even more crime in black neighborhoods. There were black members of Congress who voted for that bill, because it really was necessary.

If Christie is the nominee a conservative must be VP. Martinez will not be enough for "Krispy Kreme" Chris Christie. If you haven't figured it out Republicans win when conservatives lead. Christie is a liberal not a conservative. He betrayed conservatives on social issues many times and his government is big spending gun control nuts. Cruz is the rightful nominee.

This in a TL where Cruz won ten states and Rubio one with the KK CC sweeping 39. Somehow, GSY knew Cruz won the PV not counting electoral fraud.

that's nothing out of the ordinary for jcl lol

I'm not offended; it's just an aggressively doltish post--in its wording, its presuppositions, its apparent belief that having a moral problem with prostitution is more offensive and more to be disclaimed than calling a woman a whore...

no no you see, if you disagree with bigotry/bigots it's always because you're hyperemotional and just can't handle Hard Truths etc etc

That very interesting text by Sanders made me wonder how actually support of non-Hispanic Catholics is divided between Sanders and Clinton? Do you think there might be still people who are something more than cultural Catholics and such activities like trip (I am trying to not call in pilgrimage as Sanders is Jew) to Rome and as we can se a lot of attention given to Catholic social teaching  can somehow be connected to the internal Democratic Party campaign?
Well, I'm probably not the only Catholic that would find it ironic to see a socialist speak at an academic conference for a paper by Pope John Paul II, who was one of the most prominent opponents of Marxism and communism during his time in office.
