this is, like, at least four nested layers of garbage

If a woman going to a party is "putting herself in obvious danger" then there is something pretty fcked up about your party culture.

Hi, foreigner.  I've never been to your country.  So I take your word for it you guys only have one kind of party over there.  Here in America we literally have an infinite variety of parties and yes the culture surrounding some of those parties is "pretty fcked up" as you put it.  It got lost in all this ridiculous noise but that really is the point.  Heroin parties might be cool and safe for small children in your wonderful country but here in America they are frowned upon as are certain other categories of parties.  Ice cream parties and wine tastings are much more accepted over here and according to scientific data are less rapey.

I totally get that you don't know anything about our country, but what I find bizarre is your incessant need to comment on it.

Kasich was referring to a particular kind of ILLEGAL party and just paraphrased the NIH and multiple city and state ordinances and advised the young lady who asked, to steer clear.  It is pretty normal for someone running for the job of chief law enforcement officer of the land to advise minors to follow the law in this country.  I realize it may be different where you live.

I'm curious does anyone on this forum think Hilary Clinton or Obama would advise there 18 year old daughter to go to a frat party with excessive underage drinking?!  Is Kasich's advice to this woman and to his own daughters different than what Hilary Clinton or Obama would say?  I mean I don't know what W Bush said to his daughters but we all know how that turned out.

Or is it you just prefer politicians to say one thing behind closed doors to their daughters and say the exact opposite thing to your daughter's face when she needs advice?  Is that what the Atlas hair on fire crowd wants?  Politicians to lie to our daughters?

Don't go to parties with a lot of alcohol IS basically saying don't socialize.

They have a lot of alcohol at wine tastings.  You honestly think he was telling 30 year old female advertising executives in NYC not to go to wine tastings with their physician/lawyer/investment banker boyfriends?  Or perhaps you want to take another crack at that... this time in context?

34% AFD
32% Die Linke
17% SPD
17% CDU

There we go. The delicious rainbow of total chaos.

The first two under this scenario would find it easy to join. For most practical purposes, from where I stand, they are the same, anyway.

The Left is pro-migrant and AfD is anti-migrant. The Left is left and the AfD is free market libertarian. How on earth are they the same to you?

Both are anti-liberal, and that is the only thing that matters.

Trump will pay off the 19.5 trillion dollar debt by removing military bases from the Middle East, Germany, South Korea and the Phillipines etc.

Some of these areas require much less military presence than is currently expended.

China, for example has never in it's 4,500 year history invaded a foreign land. They just quible over Tibet, Taiwan, Hong Kong etc which were probably theirs to begin with.

Diplomacy can save you trillions.

Trump wants to use the military as a last resort.

Maybe West Virginia. Almost certainly no where else.

I could be wrong but I almost feel like Republicans hit their ceiling in West Virginia in 2012. He might gain a few votes there but lose a few others from Clinton loyalists so it'll probably stay the same.

I think he narrows the gap in Michigan, Wisconsin and possibly flips Ohio and New Hampshire.

It's not hard to see why 2008 and 2012 saw such dramatic shifts against the Democrats in Appalachia/Ozarks. That reason won't be on the ballot in 2016.

"Soft segregationism"

I am not a racist and I have no reason to think that I would have been a racist during the Vietnam War era. I am obviously completely opposed to segregation, but at the time, I probably would have opposed desegregation busing and sympathized with soft segregationists.

I wasn't an active poster when the whole Kim Davis stuff happened, but she is a mild FF for me. I would not have done the same if I were in her position, but I believe her behavior was caused by deeply held religious convictions and I do not believe she is a hateful person. I went to Morehead to show my solidarity to her as a fellow KY Dem because I think her treatment by the media and the state Democratic Party was disgraceful.

It may sound melodramatic to you atheists out there, but the fact is, a Christian woman was sent to jail because she refused to violate her religious beliefs. I think we all know that if this were a Muslim clerk in Massachusetts who did the same thing, the state Democratic Party would have bent over backwards to find a middle ground for them.

Well maybe if Natives placed more value as a culture on education and not being trash this wouldn't be a problem. And yes I would say the same for poor whites in the Southeast before you predictably try to play that card.

just a literal goldmine of dumb

I think I know what he's trying to do. Think trickle down but with EV's. He's thinking if he wins normally blue states, he'll by default win their more swingy neighbors maybe because of his nationalized campaign?
Well, that's a really idiotic way of doing it...the New York and California media markets are two of the most expensive in the country.    Heck, NY and CA are just expensive to campaign in period...
It actually makes some sense in a truly nationalized campaign (that you are better than your opponent at) to not ignore EV gold mines... Also, winning the popular vote does have some effect on helping to win the EC for some reason (human connectivity or something).

An interesting thought, He isn't going to spend much money on TV anywhere... He wins TV without paying for it.  "Focus" is just that?  showing up and holding his mega rallies?  Internet resources? Hiring some people?

....West Virginia is on the map?Huh?  is he trying to get 100% of the vote?

It says a lot about the current state of the European Union that an influx of ~1-1.5 million refugees, by all accounts a rather tiny proportion of the European population, has created a traumatic political crisis that's devouring the system. The United States managed to handle the Vietnamese and the Cuban refugees wave, which were on a somewhat similar scale relative to the proportion of the population, with relative ease in the past. Similarly, refugee crises in the past were handled admirably by Europe, of interest to this thread ought to be Greece's response to the influx of Albanian migrants in the 90s, the response to Somali refugees etc.

First of all both the Vietnamese and Cubans arrived in smaller number over a longer periode than the amount of refugees Germany alone received in 2015. Sweden have received more refugee than USA did in the Mariel boatlift, and it's a country with 1/30 of the American population. It's why we see the significant political crisis in those two countries over this, and moreso in Sweden than Germany.

Also right now USA take in 70 000 refugees annual. Which is why the American moral high ground on this point is built on hot air. In fact the numbers of Cuban and Vietnamese refugees USA have taken in are 300 000 and 800 000. As comparison Denmark received 7500 refugees in 2013 and 14700 in 2014 of which around half get asylum (3900 and 6100). Denmark have 1/60 the population of USA. When you make than calculation, it means that as percent of the population Denmark took around 25% more refugees (compared to populatio  size) in one year (before the refugee crisis) than USA have taken in Cubans over 50 years or 45% of the amount of Vietnamese USA have taken in.

...and here' the fun part Denmark are nowhere near Germany, Sweden or Austria in the amount of refugees these countries have taken.

Of course compared to the past Europe doesn't take many refugees. But it's because our treatment of those refugees in the past was cheaper and their future was clearer.. As example Denmark took in 250 000 Germany refugees in 1945 from Prussia (mostly women and children). They was placed in camps until they could be repatriated (which they mostly was by 1950).
Germany of course took in many more refugees, of course those refugees happened to be mostly Germans.

If we could place the refugees in permanent camps and be sure they could be repatriated in a few years (or at least leave Europe). Most European countries could take many more, but that's not what we're asked

Well, yes, that's my point. It's very unreasonable to expect Germany or Sweden or Austria to handle the amount of refugees that they've been receiving. However, the European Union was an attempt to, well, forge some sort of consensus on these matters and, as such, is clearly not functional nor purposeful if it cannot handle this kind of a "crisis" and distribute/share refugees in an equitable fashion. After all, it is a kind of state and there cannot be a common labor market with something approaching open borders without common agreement on refugee issues. That's all that I'm saying. I have no moral high ground, of course,  I'm just pointing out the obvious here, I suppose.

However, it is equally foolish to expect Saudi Arabia or Qatar to be able to handle the number of refugees that many far-right idiots expect them to handle. For one, I do not understand why the so-called advocates of "Western values" want to push refugees into the clutches of despicable states ruled by barbaric despots. Secondly, it would almost certainly be a disaster: why would pushing refugees into slum-like camps in Saudi Arabia or Qatar or the UAE where they'd be treated as third-class citizens and probably pushed into slave-labor result in anything good? In all likelihood, that would create further instability in the Middle East and could plunge the region into chaos, especially if the imams/clerics decided to break with the House of Saud, which could happen with recent economic proposals of the upstart princes. That would be no good at all!

"Western values" are just a buzz words which really means a lot of different things to different people. So let me translate.

It means; "we're not interested in making our societies worse to help a bunch of people, who we don't really have any reason to like".

If these refugees came across as more likable, the opposition to let these in would be a lot smaller. There was not the same opposition to take in refugees under the Cold War, and the reason we see opposition now and specific with Muslims, is because decades of interaction with these people have lead to contempt and disgust.

I know I'm going to be dismissed as a loony leftist or something, but I believe that nobody should be allowed to own a gun.

Why do people own guns?

Self-Defense: Your bedside gun to protect yourself from an invader is more likely to end in an accident involving you shooting yourself, than in the protection of you. Not nearly enough crimes are prevented by people because they have guns to make this argument reasonable. So many people are shot by toddlers each year that it's really hard to justify this.

Hunting: Animal cruelty, and it's completely useless. Nobody hunts for food in 21st century America.

I look forward to arguing with someone over this.

Since Mark Dayton's so great, I'm glad he crushed the Republican who ran against him in 2010 after Pawlenty's disaster. And before you claim Independence ruined it for him, Tom Horner was a Republican until 2010.

the fact that dayton won in 2010 is telling, yes.

Gotta love our friend Santander.

HP. He turned the party I love into an awful radical leftist party driven by anti-intellectualism.

(Yes, I voted for him...)

"The Democratic Party has become a far left anti-white hate group Communist Party! I'll show them how much I hate what they've become by voting for a socialist!"

- Dixiecrat Logic
It makes a bit of sense when the other candidate is literally an anti-white, anti-America criminal.

well you see, it's ok because he's a minority /s

In 1990, obese adults made up less than 15% of the population. Today they make up 36% of the population. 69 percent (!!) of adults are overweight or obese. $190 billion -- That's the amount of added medical costs every year that are estimated to stem from obesity-related problems. It's nearly 21% of total U.S. health care costs. 1/5 deaths in this country are obesity related, etc, etc.

Please post what you think we should do to combat the obesity epidemic on thread: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=240981.0

Would you support taxing fattening food/beverages and/or overweight/obese individuals in order to combat the obesity epidemic?

I voted yes. From a fiscally conservative perspective, obesity is a huge problem. It's costing us so much in health-related costs. We need to do everything we can in order to combat the obesity epidemic. We should tax obese people to incentivize them to start eating healthy and exercising.

Frankly the DNC did the right thing all along, they just should have done a better job of containing Sanders. We as the hated establishment are the adults in the party, and we're in charge. We must tune out the base for the same reason that football coaches don't listen to what the fans in the stadium think.

I don't get why Wolverine is an establishment lover. I don't think the Democratic establishment hates transgender people enough for him to be satisfied.
