Perot ran as a centrist (on some issues at least).  Trump ran to the right of the GOP on many issues.

Immigration. That's all. He was to the left of GOP orthodoxy, at least rhetorically, on virtually everything else.

Immigration and national security.  And these are major issues for Republican voters.
