Conservative democratic party (center-right) / Liberal republican party (center-right)
People's Party (populist, economically interventionist but anti-socialist)
Social Democratic and Civic Movement
Rally for defense of Democracy (a broad and trans-ideological coalition advocating for tough policies against fascism)
Christian Democrat Party - centrist, christian and agrarian party
Patriots of the World - anti-federalist rally, rather statist and reaching across the political spectrum
Social-Liberal Alliance (a merger of the SDCM with minor center-liberal parties)
The Alliance of the Left and Social Democrats (ALSD) - Moderate democratic socialist party, ardently centre-left. More left-wing splinter party that developed shortly after the formation of the SLA.

Harold Wilson steps down as the British Prime Minister from the Westminster Assembly in April 1976 to run for President.

There is, of course, an obvious right-wing 1980 couple...

As Mandela leaves office, the Presidency falls back to this Centrist Liberals of the SLA. Their new "Third Way" doctrine, under the guise of "New Liberals" gets them back into office for the first time since President Trudeau left office, 24 years ago. Blair/Clinton beat back Jacques Chirac of the Patriots, George W. Bush of the Conservative Democrats and Kostas Simitis for the Alliance.

The new ALSD nominee, former head of the IMF and current President of France, Dominique Strauss-Kahn chooses his replacement at the IMF, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown as his VP. They beat the Conservative ticket of Stephen Harper/Tony Abbott, they beat the Liberal candidates of Mark Rutte/Nick Clegg and Angela Merkel's campaign for the Christian Democrats. They also beat the newly emerging, yet small, International Seperatist Party ticket of Alex Salmond/Gilles Duceppes.
