Most of the critics don't have a problem with the building of a mosque, it's that the location is in so obviously of a provocative spot that they are raising hell about it. It's pretty clear that no one knows where the money for this is coming from, the Imam has questionable ties and Islam has a history of putting mosques on conquered ground.

Islam has a history of putting mosques on conquered ground.

The Republicans found their new stupid wedge issue. Oh noes, there might be a mosque 2 blocks away from Ground Zero instead of 4 blocks away. The sky is falling.

So Obama finally took a reasonable stand on something, even though it's a completely irrelevant issue. Maybe Obama should concentrate on the economy instead.

I agree, an Islamic Victory Mosque in a building that was hit by one of the planes landing gear two blocks from ground zero is meaningless really.

This is a stupid issue, but Obama shouldn't have said anything about it.

Agreed, an Islamic victory mosque in a building that the landing gear of a 9/11 plane hit certainly means nothing.

I'm not entirely sure what a "victory mosque" is. Explain?

Think of the Mosque on the temple mount, in Constantinople, etc.

A mosque in a major city?
Yes, that's what he meant Roll Eyes

Xahar is a smart fellow. He knows exactly what I am talking about as well. Hey, I don't disagree with the idea of what his faith practices in it but I don't personally like it. I grew up around a bunch of Palestinians who hated Israel and some actively fought against it. I know what the though process is regarding this whole thing is regardless of the smears some folks here want to place against me.

Reason three is flawed. The First Amendment gives you a right to practice, it gives you no such right to practice it where you want.

And you claim to love freedom?

So do you oppose putting pornography stores near elementary schools?

And guess who gets to define where 1st amendment rights apply! That's right, the government! Oops, the government is only bad when it does stuff you dislike....oops.

I believe in basic zoning laws at the local level, yes.

No, of course not....why would that be a problem? You don't have to sell the pornography to an underage person.

Zoning laws?

The group he gave money was shut down by the feds and the people were jailed.

Isn't that worrisome in the least? I understand your point about it was common, hell I have family who gave money to the PLO a long time ago, that doesn't make it right however.

Yeah, the group looks bad. I wonder how much people who donated knew where the money was going--it's unclear from the link and my memory from when it happened was that they presented themselves to donors as helping people with food and medicine etc. Given that this guy donated to LaRouche, all bets are off as to whether he has any sense or restraint about his donations.

What doesn't worry me is using this guy's donating money to one group as significant with regard to his giving money to another, unless he was on a board of directors for the Islamic center, or unless he was actively involved in the HLF. But it's an effective headline for Fox to run with in the service of its greater cause, certainly.

Most people, especially rich individuals, know exactly where their money is going.

And once again, States, your less than Fruedian slip of comparing a mosque's effect on a neighborhood to a porn store shows exavtly where you're coming from.

Cool, they're about equal really.

A crucial journalistic scoop by Fox News about the terror links to the mosque funder...sort of.

Didn't bother to watch the link from Lebowitz. I don't watch non funny comedians.
