But people will be surprised just how far right, and in many cases socially conservative, the Republican electorate is in Southern California. Remember the cheering for people getting killed by the state of Texas happened in California.
Huh?
Where the audience at the GOP debate in the Reagan Library cheered over the fact that Texas has executed so many people when Rick Perry was asked by the moderator (do not remember which moderator)
Got it. Thanks. Though I'd note support for capital punishment has always been a rare streak of social conservatism popular in CA.
The republican electorate there is pretty conservative. Southern California used to have a very conservative electorate. The old republicans there are still like that and have more influence over the republican party than you would think. The more socially moderate but fiscally conservative people are independents now and they don't get to vote.
I'll buy that. Not unlike the mass exodus of moderate independents from the SE PA GOP, perhaps.
