No, they should have just filmed the Thrawn Trilogy and everyone would have loved it.

You would have had to recast Luke, Leia and Han to make that work

Maybe. It depends on when they made it and how many differences they wanted to make from the novels.

They probably should have done the Thrawn Triolgy instead of episodes 1, 2, and 3.
