He did not get a pass.....most of the nightly shows, even the lib ones ripped him.

I don't think he's gotten a complete pass, but certainly the reactions are much less intense than if Bush had done it. Though I do agree that comedians have been just as harsh (which is good).

I think the difference is the media framed the mistakes Bush made as a part of his personal character and governing style, while Obama is never personally attacked for certain things, just the "administration".

A study by Pew showed that in his first 100 days Obama received twice as many favorable stories as Bush or Clinton, including Fox News and such.

Granted, I started getting into politics in late 2006, so I only remember Bush never getting a break.

Umm, Obama didn't take a month long vacation where he ignored a memo titled "Bin Laden determined to strike in US", with said vacation followed by a massive terrorist attack, which was then followed by a 91% approval rating. This thread is truly an epic fail.

I thought that Reagan proved that deficits don't matter.

Reagan's domestic policies left a lot to be desired. His tax cuts were good, as was his foreign policy, but the deficits were a big negative, which is why he is not one of the "great" Presidents in my mind. I have no idealized image of Reagan, though he was better than most other politicians of the time.
