From a standpoint of pure personal ambition, he should root for Obama's re-election.
If a Republican is elected in 2012, probably the recovery is slow and unless it picked up a lot in 2013, Christie would be a good bet to lose re-election himself and then wouldn't be in the greatest of positions in 2020: a one and done governor who was last in office 7 years earlier.
But if Obama wins, that may well mean the economy is picking up and Christie's approvals with it, which would put him in a better position to win re-election and run for the open White House in 2016.
