Rather simple, and I can tell who this person wants to govern the State Commonwealth of Virginia.

He looks in a good mood.  Tongue

Understandably so.

Whereabouts in Britain do you live, out of interest?

North Wales, near Snowdonia National Park.

Vote Plaid then. Grin

Oh, and could you check up on Al? I'm worried about his redisappearance so shortly after getting out of hospital... and you're in the area...

I already commented on your signature I believe.

And yours.

Vote Plaid then. Grin

Oh, and there is no way I am ever going to vote for Plaid Cymru, I'd sooner vote Tory!  Tongue

By the way, who's Al?  Somehow I doubt I'd recognise him anyway.

I'm indifferent on this one.  Tongue

Needs improvement but I guess it's a british thing. Wink

What's wrong with keeping it simple and to the point?  Tongue

I will admit that I regularly read Dilbert strips, and that one is somewhat amusing.

(Skip me.)

Must be a sock of Bob Dole since he refers to himself in the third person.  (I.e., "one's self" instead of "myself".)

Do I read correctly that yonder acquaintance here is unfamiliar with the formalities of "the Queen's English", instead mistaking one of its quirks for a concept as vulgar as illeism?  Tongue

I speak American, and to me "one" is distinctly a third person singular pronoun not a first person pronoun.  That's Brits as a group are daft enough to employ it as an affected first person is just more proof that you've been mucking up the language ever since we parted ways in 1783.  (Incidentally, American pronunciation is closer to what Shakespeare used than British pronunciation.)

Hey.  You do know that the English language more or less originated on this island you know, so by rights anything we Brits (especially the English) do with it is not construed as "mucking it up", ok?  Besides, it's the Americas who've been mucking up the language you'll find.  Spelling colour without a "u"?  Utter sacrilege!  How dare you people on the other side of the Atlantic think that you can tell us what to do with our* language!  It's just not cricket!  Tongue

*And I am referring to the people of Britain, England especially, here.  Tongue

Can't say that I have much of an opinion on this one.  Tongue

Are you certain its not the parties that are doing the refusing? Wink

Oh, very certain.  Wink

If I was an elected politician I'd revel in every second of not having to follow a party whip.  Cool

Wouldn't it be easier in the states where whip reigns not supreme?

[skip]

Nah, too much machine politics, even in states where the phenomenon is relatively light.  That, and some states have ridiculous ballot access laws.  Over here all you need is to be of the right age and to pay a £500 deposit (I think it's £500), which you'll get back if you get 5% or more of the vote at an election.  The Monster Raving Loonies lose their deposits a lot.  Tongue
