For the record, I wasn't in favor of intervention in either Libya or Syria.  However, I had to say something in response to your joke Islamophobia.  The idea that Sharia Law stands for "kill all infidels and put women barefoot back into the kitchen with head coverings!" is a dishonest strawman put into place by western media that is along the same lines as people who think that in order to follow the bible you have to stone homosexuals and adulterers.  Very few Muslims in America genuinely want to put "infidels" to the sword.

And given some of the social justice tenets in Sharia Law, it'd be an improvement in some respects to what came before.

I'm really kind of surprised that "the Thatcher/Reagan reforms of the 80s were hamfistedly and oftentimes sociopathically implemented but ultimately necessary" is apparently some kind of edgy troll position to take.

You can make that argument, but even if, not sure how Reagan is in any way necessary. You could have gotten the reforms without the idiocy and recklessness of Reagan.

There's also the less quantifiable argument that the goofy optimism and nationalist swagger of a Reagan was necessary on a psychological level after the malaise of the Nixon-Carter-Ford era.

One can question at what cost.

What incentive do they have to fix the United States? If we're giving them pay incentives, we could do the same thing for US citizens.

None of our politicians have economics degrees or rigorous business training, which should be a minimum prerequisite for anyone who controls $3T in government revenue.

Reagan, HW Bush, Clinton, W Bush all had economics or MBAs from prestigious institutions. Obama does not.

Teddy Kennedy, with the most famous family name in Massachusetts,  was able to win a Senate seat in one of the most Democratic states in the nation, a seat held by his very famous brother and President, John F Kennedy, who made it clear he wanted his little brother to inherit the seat.

However, he was not able to defeat the President and Georgia peanut farmer, when it came to running outside his personal little enclave of liberalism and Kennedyism, and wrest the nomination from a bumbling Chief Executive.

Certainly some southerners hunt, but I'd agree with you that it's more of a midwestern/western thing.  Hunting is very big around here (dear, turkey, pheasant) and it was kind of big in suburban St.Louis where I grew up (mostly just dear).  Dear in the south tend to be smaller 'cause of the heat.
