It might be more plausible if we included third party candidates. For instance
1980: Anderson 1984: Mondale 1988: Dukakis 1992: Perot 1996: Perot 2000: Gore 2004: Kerry 2008: McCain 2012: Romney
Massachusetts Jewish man with fiscally conservative but socially liberal leanings who disliked Reagan's "New Right" tendencies". Also voted for favourite son Dukakis in 1988 and supported Perot both times out of support for a balanced budget and opposition to NAFTA. Naturally opposed a strong social conservative like Bush but turned Republican in 2008 out of a perceived lack of commitment to Israel by Obama.
