Rocky becomes President after Ford is assasinated by Squeky Fromme, Rocky narrowly defeats Carter in 1976. Things so the same with the economy. Teddy Kennedy wins the Dem nomination, chooses Reubin Askew as his running mate.

Im interested to see a map, I'd like to see how the South would vote in the scenario.

Here's my (probably wrong) attempt at a map.

The hardest part was figuring where the South would go, I figured that if the South had to make a choice, with no Third Party Option, the South would choose "The lesser of two evils" Rocky, Teddy picks up the more blue collar areas in the South, still a big Kennedy win.

Rockefeller: 212
Kennedy: 326

Besides the fact that Nelson Rockefeller died January 26, 1979, making it difficult for him to run for President in 1980, we will assume for the sake of this scenario that President Rockefeller was still going strong in 1980.

This election can be summed up in one word

CHAPPAQUIDDICK

wherein the filandering drunk left a young woman to die at the bottom of a lake while he saved himself.

End of story.

Rockefeller/Dole                       335
Kennedy/Askew                       203

Just so you know, Rocky died in 1979, because he had a Heart Attack, and instead of his Woman companion calling 911, she called her friend asking what to do. Being President butterfilies this because the Secret Service would get him to the Hospital.
