I will join without condition, but I will beg of you, with everything I have, please please use the colour Blue. That was the whole impetus behind creating the NCP, and if I can only bring one thing over with me, that is what I want it to be.

Hurrah!

Also, do we have a chair and vice chair? I was planning to run for vice chair of the NCP, but I could do so here Tongue

Let's talk structure.

We should have a Chairman, some sort of director or coordinator, and maybe a Vice Chairman. We also ought to develop formal bylaws.

Perhaps rules for primaries and leadership elections deserve consideration too.

I like these ideas. I like the idea of a Chairman, a Vice, and a Secretary, who would be our coordinator. If such a position is created, it would be that position for which I'd like to run.

I'm not opposed to the style of any of the other proposed logos (except the communist one) but rather am greatly concerned that the non-blue ones do not have enough blue.

As for the logo, why don't we just say:

"The Liberal Party will be represented with a torch as a symbol and the color blue".

endorsed.

Okay, let's try to get things in order -

I suggest that, if we're voting on platforms/logos/leadership that we should include a process for election by acclaimation, so that we don't end up having to wait three days for the winner of an uncontested election to be Whip or whatever.

As for the platform, I'd suggest a brief paragraph summing up the party's ideological stance. Nothing too complicated, although I would caution against becoming the dreaded "big tent" party. Tongue

As for leadership, I propose three positions - Chair, Vice Chair and Whip. Dull, but effective. I'd like to nominate myself for Chair proper, Napoleon for Vice Chair, and Teddy for Whip in the event that these positions are created.

e: Based on my early proposals for a logo, here's the simple torch idea in blue -

...and a logo with the name included

also endorsed

Concerning the platform, we had these:

I'm just throwing some ideas out for discussion- don't take this as the platform of the caucus.

- Support for safe, accessible,  and legal abortion
- Generally supportive of free trade agreements
- Supportive of a compassionate and realistic immigration policy, including increased legal immigration
- Support liberalization of sex and drug policies at regional and federal level
- Pursue comprehensive environmental protection and restoration legislation
- Create a prosperous business envrionment by avoiding overregulation

Even though Scott's proposal had many of my suggestions, I still like Napoleon platform 'cause it puts things in a simple way. Maybe other members would like to add more ideas or change something in particular (abortion could be a problem).

I've scratched out what I consider to be inflammatory language from the above. Supporting those ideas and putting them in our official platform are different. I would have a hard time supporting some of those stricken out platform objectives; ones relating to families for example, do not relate to me. I am single, and not close to my mother or father etc. I don't like the idea of my party telling me that this somehow makes me less of a person.

I like Napoleon's platform, and say we should go with it. This seems to be what we can all agree on. We can always add things later that we can agree on, rather than starting with a platform that causes some of our members unease.

"The Liberal Party stands for the notion that all individuals are of intrinsic value, and that every government should recognize this basic fact by protecting the right of its citizens to pursue a life of happiness and fulfillment free from unnecessary government impediment, while also actively promoting the welfare of the public."
This is good.

"The Liberal Party was founded by a member of former members of the Liberal Caucus of the JCP [1] and the majority of members of the National Centrists [2]".

And, at the end:

[1] oakvale, napoleon, scott, and the rest of the guys.
[2] Teddy and the rest of the guys.

Again, it's a stub on an editable wiki. If you guys don't like what I've written so far, feel free to re-write it.

This party strongly opposes the death penalty. While an individual member may not, it is important that the Liberal Party stick to its guiding principles. I don't agree with Democrats on the entire platform but im still a happy member.
This. I think we need to stick to this way of thinking. We should not be exclusionary.

I dont like the idea of writing controversial policy planks in the platform, unless we also specify that we support the ability of our members to vote their conscience (which would be one of our planks)

As an example using things we'd never agree with
The party supports eating eggs raw
The party supports cooking steak until it's black
The party supports drinking window washer
The party supports allowing it's individual members moral freedom on dietary issues.

Platform idea:

The Liberal Party of Atlasia stands for Liberalism in all it's forms. We support the intrinsic value of the individual, and that the governments main duty is to protect and allow it's citizens to pursue a life of joy, happiness, and comfort, without undue stress, and that the government's duty is to both remain minimal and supportive of public welfare.

The Liberal Party supports the rights of women, the LGBT community, and human rights. We oppose the death penalty, support abortion, and back same sex marriage and adoption. We support the right of the individual to live their lives as they see fit.

The Liberal Party wants to build an Atlasia where the people live without the constant fear and worry of destitution. We accept that public welfare and support for the needy is not only required, but desired. We desire a society where welfare is a back-up option available to those who falter, and not a way of life. We support a society that incentivises success, a society that allows a person to be all that they can be, and a society that welcomes all.

The Liberal Party opposes the idea of a 'litmus test' of support. We are an open big-tent party that will not exclude any members based on a small number of ideas on which they may disagree with the party as a whole. We believe that this is necessary for community building not only on the party, but that this attitude of inclusion is a requirement to build an at-large community across all political lines in Atlasia as a a whole.

We are the only national* party that's not committed to dissolution.

* = Having at least 1 member in each region!

I'm not exactly comfortable with the party being defined as "centre-left". I thought we were "centre and centre-left"

All of which are pretty meaningless terms. Why not just say "pragmatic progressives" instead? Clears up any confusion.
I could back that. I've always considered myself a progressive.
