Let's say you gave all of Cook County to the state of Indiana. How would that change the politics of each state. Obviously Illinois would become redder and Indiana would become bluer, but would the red and blue status completely flip? Or would Cook turn Indiana into just a swing state, instead of a solid blue state. At the same time, would Republicans dominate Illinois without the largest city that helps run up Democratic margins?

But would Obama still have won Illinois in 2008 without Cook? My guess is yes since he did remarkably well down state. I think Clinton would have won both Illinois and Indiana in the 92 and 96 as well.
