You would think the Confederacy lasted longer than 4 years (with control outside of the Deep South less the 2) the way it is depicted Southern lore. The Natives were more successful at trying to hold their territory against the Union.

Imagine if Alabama seceded in 2010 and was already back. They would be a late night TV punchline.
