Feeling good about Thornhill now. NF looks slightly closer than Forum had it, but probably still a Dipper win.

NF is frustrating. A little more effort or OLP bleeding another way... but I'll take a solid Thornhill win. Plus we all hate Gritdom, right? Tongue

So, does Horwath finally pull the trigger? Or a full-term minority parliament, which seems absurd.

Glad to have you with us. Tongue

Hudak may beat Wynne to the podium, expected there in about 5 minutes.

Hudak claims victory, saying ON wants change but noting the meaningless stat that PCs led the combined PV 42/30/24 (H/T Coyne on the #).

Half the cabinet is there with Wynne. Guess that $100 million didn't pan out.

Wynne calls it a disappointing night but vows Grits will retake it, suggests these were only "skirmishes."

Wynne says that Ontarians want change, "I am that change" and "as we head into a general election." Explicitly mentions GE 4 times in the speech. Visiting the LG sometime soon?

Re Hudak's bitching: he could privately vow to loosen the campaign finance regime to match WF's spending. Not rocket science. Or build a better GOTV organization, perhaps with federal help if requested?

Kinsella and Paikin have, predictably, quite different takes. WK sees a Grit massacre outside GTA, Paikin a muddled status quo. Not necessarily incompatible: Paikin could be right in the short term, Kinsella in a GE.

Grenier also suggests a Blue-Orange battle outside Ottawa and TO if this pattern repeats itself in a GE. Wonder what a map would look like with OLP in 3rd and either opposition party in government.

Which is why fixed election dates are stupid IMO, but in practice the new PC leader will probably follow it.

Chow is resigning Trinity-Spadina tomorrow as she bids for the mayoralty. Harper will undoubtedly pair it with Macleod.

Open nominations are as much a joke as free social issue votes.

Whitby-Oshawa will soon be vacant now that Flaherty's resigned from Cabinet.

Nevermind: an aide clarified that Flaherty will be staying on as an MP. I guess till the election, but rather strange for a former FM to sit on the backbench for 14-18 months.

I knew those examples (and Clark before anyone brings that up), my opinion remains unchanged.

Are there any other socially conservative liberals in the riding who can replace Karygiannis?

I doubt there is much social conservatives left in the Liberal Party. Trudeau isn't attractive to them.

Who can forget the "fundamental right" of abortion. More distantly, as we know, the leader's expanded appointment power was designed to block pro-lifers and promote affirmative action.
