Age is a pretty big thing, in this context. Also, Schatz is one of the most left-wing Hawaii politicians and it's always a good thing to move the Senate spectrum to the left. And I think avoiding the drama of an internal strife is more important here than for the Governor's race (since everyone hates Abercrombie anyway, it's not like that would change much in that case).

Though Schatz is perceived to be more left wing, I don't think there's any question that they'd both vote the party line on virtually everything.

We need Senators like Feingold that will vote against the party line when appropriate

It seems a bit demeaning to Hanabusa that many are backing her for the sole sake of Inouye's endorsement and not on her own merits.

That's as far as substance goes where her campaign is concerned.

No real Governor lets a corpse force his hand.

The seat doesn't belong to Schatz either.

*funny error, though

Just because someone got appointed Senator they shouldn't receive a primary challenge?

I think our argument is more like "offer a reason to vote for you in a primary besides some dead guy supporting you for the seat" and that still hasn't happened. Even Ed Case had ideological differences from Akaka when he made his primary challenge. And yes, I understand that in Hawaii many of the natives and Asian residents hold a reverence for their elders and the passed, but it's not really a solid political argument at all. A sense of entitlement makes Hanabusa seem more sour grapes about not being appointed than actually having a vision for the future.

Wow I just realized that in this thread, he explains his own failed attempt at humor. Pathetic
