The Tendring results were also terrible for the Lib Dems (including failing to stand in one of the wards).  I don't know who used to vote Lib Dem in coastal Essex, but from the vote share changes it looks like a lot of them now vote UKIP.

The UKIP candidate in Peter Bruff was apparently a former Lib Dem councillor for the ward.

The Ramsbottom result seems very poor for Labour; any idea why?

Row over recycling facility nearby; Tory candidate had lost out on the drawing of lots in an earlier election; Labour clusterblark over selection.

Apart from a rather literal-sounding translation of "word" as "focal" and the slightly odd spelling of "anseo" it all makes perfect sense to me...

Anyway...

Highland, Caol and Mallaig

Ind Thompson 39.0
SNP 30.4 (+15.6)
Ind Watson 22.5
UKIP 5.6 (+5.6)
SCP 2.6 (+1.0)

Ind Thompson wins (no more detailed figures available, and on past form from Highland Council, we're not going to get any).
