Of course Johnson was not attacking all patriotism, just avowed (usually fake) patriotism.

Oh, I was quoting Johnson, not Bob Dylan. Tongue People who go out of the way to describe themselves as "patriots" and use the usual bombast that goes with that are almost always disgusting fakers, trying to make up for something that they in all actuality lack.

Nationalism is more genuine than patriotism in almost every instance, given that the latter is usually just some dickhead yelling about someone not wearing a flag pin that was made by 8 year olds in Vietnam.
